Women Voters |
What is the League of Women Voters?
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that works to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government. We work to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influence public policy through education and advocacy. Members are women and men of voting age who inform themselves before taking stands on issues.
We register voters and defend all citizen's voting rights. We monitor government activities from city councils and school boards to state legislatures and the U.S. Congress. We educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities. We sponsor candidate forums and public issues forums. We study issues in order to arrive at member consensus. And we take action by lobbying, testifying, and educating legislators on issues we care about. As a nonpartisan body, the League takes action on issues. We do not support or oppose candidates or parties.
