September 23 is National Voter Registration Day 2014: League of Women Voters and The Social Action Committee of The Lexington (KY) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Celebrate by Registering High School Students

On September 23, 2014, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) with a massive 50 state effort to register voters before Election Day this November.  In light of national elections, the theme for this year’s National Voter Registration Day is Celebrating Democracy in America. With 471 congressional seats up for grabs this year, all Kentucky House of Representatives and half of the state Senate, Urban County Council District and At-Large seats and many more, every eligible American and every Kentuckian is expected to vote on Election Day 2014. But citizens must remember to register in September in order to vote in November. That is why communities across the country are planning to use National Voter Registration Day to increase voter participation this fall.

Thousands of national, state, local organizations and volunteers will be the driving force behind National Voter Registration Day 2014. Partner organizations will coordinate hundreds of NVRD events nationwide and leverage #CelebrateNVRD in all social media platforms to drive attention

to voter registration and the midterm elections.

The League of Women Voters of Lexington and The Social Action Committee of The Lexington (KY) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are proud to be National Voter Registration Day partners. On September 22 and 23, they will register voters at the following events:

    Monday, September 22, 2014 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Tates Creek High School, 1111 Centre Parkway (League)

Henry Clay High School, 2100 Fontaine Road (League)

    Tuesday, September 23, 2014 – 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Bryan Station High School, 201 Eastin Road (Sorority)

Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, 1600 Man O War Blvd. (Sorority)

Lafayette High School, 401 Reed Lane (League)

The effort’s website, www.NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org provides a listing of National Voter Registration Day events across the country. Started in 2012 for the presidential election, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right undefinedthe right to vote. More than 356,000 Americans have been registered to vote since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day.
