"We Vote!" Student Democracy Team Informational Meeting

  • Northside Library Conference Room A 1733 Russell Cave Road Lexington, KY, 40505 United States (map)

In 2020, the LWV of Lexington is kicking off an annual city-wide, school-branded high school voter registration campaign. Working with schools and students, we will empower students by providing them with the education and tools they need to start a lifelong habit of voting.

As part of the League of Women Voters's first annual "We Vote!" High School Voter Registration Campaign, we will be engaging several students from each high school to be peer 'voting advocates'. These students will act as liaisons between the  LWV "We Vote!" campaign and their high school student body, as well as peer resources on voting information. Peer voting advocates from each high school along with LWV volunteers will comprise the LWV Democracy Team.

The members of the Democracy Team will:

  • meet regularly with team members from all participating Lexington high schools

  • receive training on voter registration, voting information and voting resources

  • collaborate with other Democracy Team members to promote voter registration at Lexington high schools

  • engage student organizations and peer groups in voter registration efforts

Our goal is to reach 100% voter registration of eligible high school students and to prepare students for a lifetime of civic engagement and voting. To effectively connect with students of different backgrounds, we want our Democracy Team to also reflect the diverse backgrounds of the students at each school.
