What Kind of Talk Does Democracy Take?  

Our Congress is dysfunctional.  Our political parties are at war.  Some of our friends and family are not speaking to each other for having chosen a political side.  There are millions of Americans who believe the election was stolen.  Our relationships are frayed and our democracy is injured.  And yet we also saw the largest voter turnout in modern election history in November; and serious efforts are underway to invest in civic education through civic service.  Challenges and opportunities live side by side now.  And while we’re beginning to understand how we got here – the real question remains, how do we get out of here?   

Are there opportunities for us to navigate and communicate better in all this churning partisanship?  Can listening deeply to the stories of others help shift understanding and build common ground?
