LWV Lexington Community Forum: Fair Housing (VIRTUAL event)

The League of Women Voters of Lexington will be hosting a virtual Community Forum "The Fundamentals of Fair Housing" on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 6-7 PM ET. Register in Advance for this virtual event.

During this session, Dayzaughn Graves and Ty'Shalia (Shay) Woods will be explaining what you need to know about fair housing. They hope the audience gains a deeper understanding of the ways discrimination appears in the housing arena and what the Lexington Fair Housing Council's role is in preventing discrimination. This forum will be recorded for later viewing.

Participants’ Bios

  • Dayzaughn Graves is a Berea College alumna, majoring in Women and Gender Studies. Currently, she is working at Lexington Fair Housing Council (LFHC) as a fair housing specialist. In this role, Ms. Graves facilitates community partnerships, educates the community about fair housing, while also solving clients' fair housing needs. Lexington Fair Housing Council works as a legal advocate for all those in the state of Kentucky. They work to help end housing discrimination by advocating for the needs of the community based on the seven protected classes, as identified in the Fair Housing Act of the Constitution. You can get more information about the organization at https://lexingtonfairhousing.com/.

  • Ty'Shalia (Shay) Woods is a graduate of the University of Kentucky's College of Public Health. Currently, she is an Americorps Intern with LFHC. She has gained knowledge in how to step into the power of advocating for her community. She has acquired communication skills, in this role, to help mediate tenant and landlord strife. Ms. Woods is hoping to leave Lexington Fair Housing Council with a foundation on how to educate her peers on the ways in which they can use their own voice to stand up for their rights, even beyond housing.
